Professor Samarskij at GMD in Berlin

Within the many years' successful cooperation with various institutes of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Academy Member Professor Alexander A. Samarskij will stay with GMD-Institute for Computer Systems and Software Technology in Berlin during November and December 1996. Professor Samarksij will also visit GMD's headquarters in Sankt Augustin and will hold some lectures there.

The stay is to extend and deepen cooperation. In the field of gas dynamics modeling and simulation, effective algorithms and their parallelization for massively parallel computers are to be discussed together with their possible application to the detection and analysis of air pollutants.

Professor Samarskij is one of the most famous mathematicians in this domain. He is invited plenary speaker of the 15th IMACS World Conference (International Association for Mathematics and Computers in Simulation) to be organized in Berlin in 1997 by GMD together with the German Gesellschaft für Informatik. As a member of the international program committee, he secures the contact with Russian researchers.
