0 - PRESENTATION OF THE GDR - ISIS

The GDR* TdSI**, a network of the French laboratories in Signal and Image Processing (SIP) has been created in 1988 and renewed in 1992 under the "umbrella" of the CNRS. It permits to gather both communities in "Signal" and "Image". With 60 labs and 1000 researchers and engineers, it has got after 8 years of existence a certain maturity. And in January 1996, it has been configurated into a new GDR called ISIS.

The aim of the GDR is to federate the national activity in SIP and to arise directions where one can "gather" the whole community of engineers and researchers in this domain. A particular effort has been paid to associate laboratories from industry. This has been "concretised" with the "Partners' Club. This Club permits an efficient exchange from academia to industry in both ways. People from industry can be informed in "real-time" about the current advances in our disciplines. They can also provide the academic labs with open problems which need a solution.

The GDR has established its WEB site via Internet and almost all the information about its activity can be obtained from the ISIS-server. This information includes the working planning of the 9 working-groups, the newsletter and many valuable information including PhD, dissertations, abstracts, résumés, etc...

The scientific patrimoine of the GDR gathers activity reports, tutorials, books, and the SIMPA Library (Signal and IMages softwares PAckage) available through the WEB to all the ISIS members. A part of this package has been transfered to softwares manufactures. It will be marketed soon through dedicated tool-boxes in Time-Frequence and Time Scale Signal Analysis.

At the international level the objective of ISIS is to take advantage of the various relationships established during the last 8 years with european laboratories to set up an European ISIS on one hand, and to provide assistance to two emerging networks in Tunisia and Marocco on the other hand.

PARTNERS' CLUB : permanent structure created for industrial partners

- Industrial partners constitute about 25% among the members of the GDR
- Gathers more than 20 French leading organizations (ELF, EDF, THOMSON...)

AIMS :

- To facilitate the transfer of fundamental research carried out in academic laboratories toward applied areas
- To handle suggestions and proposals for creating new working groups and projects

Nota bene :

The Partners' Club participates to the financial support of the GDR

V - SIMPA LIBRARY

Signal and IMage software PAckages

WHAT IS SIMPA

A library of Signal and Image processing routines and databases which is a product of the collaborative effort conducted within the GDR - ISIS

AIMS

* facilitate the exchange of softwares within the GDRTdSI members and in the next future with the European groups.

* promote the transfer of these softwares to industry

SIMPA PROCESSING ROUTINES

SIMPA contains about 200 routines

VII -
EUROPE AND MEDITERRANEAN COOPERATION

ISIS
has developped strong links with the major labs in Signal and Image Processing in Europe. ISIS is exerting efforts :

- to contribute to set up : an EUROPEAN ISIS -

- to cooperate with emerging networks in TUNISIA AND MOROCCO
