About Cor Baayen
The Cor Baayen Award is named after the first president of ERCIM and the ERCIM 'president d'honneur'. Cor Baayen played an important role in its foundation. Cor Baayen was scientific director of the Centrum voor Wiskunde en Informatica (CWI) in the Netherlands, from 1980 to 1994.
Baayen joined the institute in 1959 as a researcher of the department of pure mathematics, where he became group leader in 1965. As scientific director, Cor Baayen convinced the government to include CWI in a program that stimulated Dutch computer science research. He initiated or stimulated several new research areas including cryptography, computer algebra and performance analysis.

Projects
ERCIM's participation in research projects and other co-operations
ERCIM is participating in several projects as co-ordinator or associated partner. In these projects several member institutes carry out the research while ERCIM takes care of administrative tasks.
Our Expertise by Your Side throughout FP7
ERCIM offers assistance in preparing FP7 ICT research proposals, and in managing ICT projects by carrying out the administrative and financial coordination.
Free of charge, our long expertise has been a key success factor in getting innovative ICT research proposals funded across the different European Framework Programmes. ERCIM is open to cooperation with any research institution and industry. In order for the ERCIM office to commit to the preparation of a project, the proposal must involve a minimum of three ERCIM members.

Why to apply for an ERCIM Fellowship?
The Fellowship Programme enables bright young scientists from all over the world to work on a challenging problem as fellows of leading European research centers. In addition, an ERCIM fellowship helps widen and intensify the network of personal relations and understanding among scientists. The programme offers the opportunity to ERCIM fellows:
- to work with internationally recognized experts
- to improve their knowledge about European research structures and networks
- to become familiarized with working conditions in leading European research centres
- to promote cross-fertilization and cooperation, through the fellowships, between research groups working in similar areas in different laboratories.
How are the fellows selected?
Each application is reviewed by one or more senior scientists in each ERCIM institute. ERCIM representatives decide on the candidates to whom Fellowships are offered, taking into account the following:
- the qualification of the applicant
- the overlap of interest between the applicant and the hosting institution
- available funding (from the hosting institute).
The number of available positions varies from call to call and depends mainly from the needs of the member institutes and their available funding.
Equal Opportunities
ERCIM is committed to ensuring equal opportunities and promoting diversity. People seeking employment within the ERCIM consortium are not discriminated against because race, color, religion, gender, national origin, age, marital status or disability.Further information
